Our two to six-year-old little ones enjoy Child-Centred Play Therapy. It is a non-intrusive and effective approach when working with young troubled or pre-verbal children. This gentle, non-directive and non-judgemental therapy method is used to help children communicate their inner experiences through the use of toys and play. It is based on the belief that children have the internal drive to achieve wellness.
Our counsellor, Tomoko Sakai provides individual play therapy sessions for children by appointment. During play therapy, we aim to help the child feel they are understood, accepted, important, valuable and capable. Then, the child may start playing out many of their problems and in the process, they release tensions, feelings, and burdens. As a result, the child will feel better about themselves and will be able to discover their own strengths and learn greater self-responsibility. As they take charge of play for themselves, they will behave in more self-enhancing ways rather than self-defeating ways.
Child-Centred Play Therapy can be effective for children who are experiencing:
- Grief and Loss
- Separation or Divorce
- Chronic Illness
- Abuse and Neglect
- Bonding and Attachment Issues
- Sleeping Difficulties
